Film Description

Alan Bates plays Butley, a sardonic and fairly contemptuous academic, on a mission in life to pierce all the bubbles of mediocrity and pretentiousness he sees around him. Directed by Harold Pinter from Simon Gray's play, this is is a prime example of the films from Ely Landau's American Film Theatre stable, which committed several modern classics to celluloid in the early seventies.
