Battle in Heaven DVD, 2005Availability Delivery Returns Policy
MovieMail's ReviewCarlos Reygadas' Battle In Heaven was one of the most controversial films to be screened at Cannes last year; some denounced its "exploitation" of non-professional actors, who feature in some very graphic sex scenes, whilst others admired its ambition and clear display of directorial expertise, arguing that it should have won the Palme d'Or. It's certainly an intense film; potentially harrowing subplots and Reygadas' unforgiving use of close-up make for occasionally uncomfortable viewing. It is well worth making the effort however, for the film is a powerfully rewarding experience.

Film DescriptionReygadas' controversial hit from Cannes has drawn plaudits and derision in equal measure and occasioned much debate over the sexually explicit pre-credits sequence. Using non-professional actors, Reygadas gives a poignant insight into the actions and thoughts of a kidnapper in Mexico, who tries to live with the consequences of his actions as well as his infatuation with his employer's daughter.
