DVD Details
Film DescriptionA sumptuously-filmed, semi-autobiographical drama by Sicilian director Giuseppe Tornatore ('Cinema Paradiso'), Baaria follows three generations of men in Tornatore's picturesque hometown of Bagheria, (known as 'Baaria' by its natives). There's Ciccio Torrenuova (Gaetano Aronica), his son Peppino (Francesco Scianna) and his grandson Pietro (Marco Iermano). In the 1930s, with Fascism taking hold across Italy, Ciccio is a humble shepherd who dedicates his solitude to books, poems and novels. Later, during the Second World War, his son Peppino belies his simple upbringing and lack of education by becoming a devoted Communist and local politician, and falls in love with local beauty Mannina (Margareth Made), with whom he goes on to have five children - including Pietro - despite the strong disapproval of her family.
