A Woman Called Abe Sada DVD, 1975aka Jitsuroku Abe Sada Availability Delivery Returns Policy
Film DescriptionThe story of Abe Sada - the woman who erotically asphyxiated her lover in 1936, then cutting off his genitals and carrying them around with her in her handbag - is probably best known through Oshima's Empire of the Senses. However, if anything Tanaka's film is even more remarkable and shocking. It is rare in the cinema to feel the intensity of erotic love, yet this film captures every frisson that occurs between a man and a woman in a state of erotic intoxication. In this film, unlike Oshima's later film, we also get some sense of Sada's life, of why she came to be in the position she was in and what happened to her after the violent end to her love affair.
