The Red Shoes: Restoration Edition (Blu-ray)

Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger, 1948

Film Description

Ballet impresario Boris Lermontov (Anton Walbrook) hires up-and-coming ballerina Victoria Page (Moira Shearer) and talented young composer Julian Craster (Marius Goring) to work with him on a new ballet, an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story 'The Red Shoes'. The show is a great success and Victoria and Julian fall in love; but Boris is jealous and makes moves to spoil their happiness.

Rightly acclaimed as one of the great films in the history of British cinema, The Red Shoes fully realises Powell's vision of complete art. He combines music, art and cinema in a work of such beauty and intelligence that it caused Scorsese to name it as one of the five greatest films ever made.
