Film Description
An acute study of madness and potential schizophrenia, Jeff Nichols' Take Shelter sees a man's extreme anxiety escalate into delusion and paranoia.
Michael Shannon stars as Curtis, a blue-collar Midwestern family man tormented by apocalyptic nightmares and hallucinations in which he sees a terrible storm coming to bring harm to himself, his wife Samantha (Jessica Chastain) and their deaf six-year-old daughter Hannah. As he pours money and energy into building a storm bunker in his backyard, Curtis develops a new fear: that he is suffering from the schizophrenia that saw his mother (Kathy Baker) institutionalised many years before. Faced with the proposition that his disturbing visions signal disaster of one kind or another, Curtis confides in Samantha, testing the power of their bond against the highest possible stakes.
