Film Description

Sympathy for the Devil sees Jean-Luc Godard meet the Rolling Stones in June 1968 and produce a film of political/musical agit-prop. The film presents a collage for the viewer to engage with as they like. Interweaved is footage of the Stones in the studio, writing, rehearsing and recording the famous song, and footage of a group of Black Power protestors in a used car lot, brandishing guns and reading revolutionary tracts. The footage of the Stones turning the title track from a rough outline into something more fully formed is fascinating.
