Once in a while a film comes along and leaves its mark in our cinema
consciousness, destined to become a classic. A cult classic I might add. Like Dead Alive or Evil Dead before it, Ravenous should be a staple of midnight showings at theatres everywhere.

Ravenous came out of nowhere and went as quickly as it came in 1999, but for us few fortunate souls who've seen it in the theatre, doubtlessly it left its mark. Starring Guy Pearce (fresh out of LA Confidential fame) as a cowardly Civil War Soldier who is sent to new frontier in the Rockies for his promotion/disgrace, who encounters a bunch of disgruntled settlers in a snowy army fort; including a cynical Colonel(Jeffrey Jones), dim-witted medic(Jeremy Davis) and a nervous rambling private(David Arquette). They come across a frontierer (Robert Carlyle) who is lost in the snow and find out the hard way that the man is a cannibal.

Campy premise but with the high production values, beautiful
cinematography, great ensamble cast and Michael Nyman's wickedly funny and surprisingly appropriate score makes Ravenous a new cult fav. < less
