Men who take life as casually as brushing lint from their suit. Killers who are tired, but can find no way back. Male bonding on a beach, playing games; an elegiac respite, killing time between killings. A road which goes nowhere, with ultimately no place for a woman.
If this were the west, it would be Peckinpah, perhaps with shades of Hawks. But this is Japan, and is ‘Beat’ Takeshi Kitano. There is no redemption.
