Film Description

Tony Palmer's spectacular history of the Salzburg Festival featuring rare archive material. The film highlights performances by conductors Furtwaengler, Knappertsbusch, Karajan, Solti, Boehm and Bruno Walter, and by singers including Christa Ludwig, Sena Jurinac, Fischer-Dieskau, Schwarzkopf, Cesare Siepi and Netrebko. The film also contains rare footage of Hitler in Salzburg, the American occupation, and of other significant historic events.
