If you're a fan of the immensely stylish (and often hyper-violent) Italian giallo thriller genre, with its often visually stunning mayhem, you should be down on your knees in praise of the spunky and enterprising DVD company Shameless, which is doing an impressive job of making available some of the rarest entries in the field – as here. Originally called The Cat's Victims, this is a film more celebrated in its reputation in than in actual viewings - it has been largely unseeable, except in dismal VHS prints. This version, of course, is a top-notch transfer, and the moody visuals positively leap off the screen. As with his filmic inspiration Dario Argento, Bido and his cinematographer ensure glittering, bloody, eye-popping visuals. The company has plausibly explained the reason for the one blot on their escutcheon – the lack of the original Italian soundtrack with subtitles – but the English dub here is at least better than most. < less
