Ellen Ripley is not herself. But then she has been brought back from the dead 200 years after the events of the third film, only to find scientists attempting to train aliens to serve military uses, so perhaps its understandable. Add to that the fact that her DNA has been tampered with, and a group of space pirates are on board the space station...Inevitably, the aliens get loose, and off we go again. Weaver, imbuing Ripley with a disturbing, feline quality, and the direction of Jeunet (following up Delicatessen and City of Lost Children), offer a level of characterisation lacking from the first films. Wincott, generally a heavy, benefits from the chance at a heroic role, and the range of familiar character actors appearing makes it a movie buffs delight. "A must see." BW. < less
