Film Description

New York 1925, and Minsky’s Burlesque – comics, bawdy sketches, dancing girls but not a striptease in sight – is in danger of being closed down by the Society for the Suppression of Vice. When straight man Raymond and comic Chick fall for the same naïve Amish girl Rachel who has run away from home to become a dancer in the big city, the two men see an opportunity to save the theatre. Telling the police that the highlight of the midnight show will be an indecent dance by the infamous Mademoiselle Fifi, they plan instead to stage a Bible-inspired dance featuring an innocent Rachel as the star, so innocuous that it will force the police into an apology rather than justify a raid. However when Rachel’s father appears at the show having tracked her down, her act of defiance might just prove to be all the justification the police were looking for – and the birth of striptease itself….
