Film Description
Ex-con Nickie Dryden has done his time. He spent 18 years in one of the toughest prisons in Britain. Now he's married and has made a new life for himself as a sculptor. His old ways are deeply buried, but one man cannot forget. Eighteen years on, the policeman responsible for his conviction, cannot accept Dryden's rehabilitation and embarks on a campaign to ensure his violent crimes are neither forgotten nor forgiven.
Billy Connolly is terrifyingly convincing as the seemingly rehabilitated Dryden and Ken Scott is superb as the obsessive policeman determined to see justice done at any price.

Anthony Neilson wrote and directed this powerful thriller which stars Billy Connolly, Francesca Annis and the superb Ken Stott. In this, his first film, Neilson acquits himself well as he guides us through the darker depths of the human psyche.
Billy Connolly plays Nickie Dryden, a former murderer who has settled into a cosy middle-class life as a respected artist. Married to the the beautiful Val (Annis)he is several worlds away from the policeman who put him away twenty years ago. Keltie (Ken Stott) watches Dryden with increasing resentment and frustration as he compares his lonely, miserable existence with the man he can only see as a callous murderer. Continually taunted by Dryden's success, his bitterness boils over with tragic consequences.
This movie is a strong examination of the themes of guilt and retribution and features excellent performances, most notably from Ken Stott and Ian Robertson as the unhinged Flipper. < less
