Film Description
'Let's Go To Work'. The original and uncut version of Quentin Tarantino's first film is a shocking and sometimes funny look at the aftermath of a jewellery robbery which has gone violently wrong. Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth and Steve Buscemi are amongst the stars making up the team of robbers - Mr Orange, Mr Blue, Mr Pink, Mr White - who meet at a warehouse after the failed heist and attempt to work out who is to blame. Includes the infamous ear-cutting scene and a classic 1970s soundtrack.
With the talented cast and now familiar Tarantino dialogue this film had a massive impact at the time and spawned a multitude of imitations, revitalising American indie cinema.

This was a landmark film and quite a refreshing spark in the melee of Hollywood productions that remains increasingly watchable ten years after it was first released. It’s the story of a gang of criminals and an armed robbery which goes badly wrong when a swarm of cops descend on the men. Told alternately in flashbacks and real-time, several of the band begin to suspect a set-up and make frantic attempts to unravel the traitor. Turning the aftermath of the heist into a feature length movie made for striking entertainment in a script peppered with mischievous humour and mad brutality. Quentin Tarantino places us right in the heart of the action in an unprecedented way, has us dancing along to some spirited old 70s tunes but repels us equally as well with Michael Madsen’s psychotic character. There are strong performances from Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney, including the writer/director himself. As a gangster movie full of double-crosses and dangerous situations, Reservoir Dogs ranks as one of the best of its kind. < less

Hard-hitting, confrontational heist movie with a twist from the enfant terrible of the early 90s. The director adopts an "answers first, questions later" approach which makes for an involving movie of great power. Excellent story, brilliant foreshadowing and sparse photgraphy all draw the audience in to a tale which is a perfect vehicle for Buscemi and Keitel to act as if their lives depended on it. Somewhat theatrical in parts, and with some pacing errors to be expected of a fledgling director, the film sparked off a new direction in mainstream cinema and is well worth seeing again. < less
