Film Description

Leigh's first feature, in which a woman cares for her retarded sister. Described by many as a masterpiece, this aptly-titled film takes inarticulacy and the tentative attempts at communication of trapped people as one of its subjects. It is perhaps a harbinger of the discontent which wracked Britain in the decade of the 'Three-Day Week'.
