Film DescriptionOn his country estate, a millionaire detective novelist does battle in a twisted battle of wits with the unemployed actor who ran off with his wife. This second film of Shaffer's play, here adapted by Harold Pinter, sees Michael Caine ascend from playing the young pretender to the older husband, with Jude Law sliding in to his old shoes. An ultra-modern set design and innovative camerawork helps it to carve out its own space from Mankiewicz's original 1972 film, which is a very great one - and an awful lot to live up to.
