Film Description
For Lucien 'Lulu' Marguet, being a policeman is more than a job – it’s a burning passion. Following another run-in with a superior, Lulu is demoted and sent to work in narcotics. Shot as a pseudo-documentary, Tavernier's L627 is a convincing and realistic portrayal of Police work in contemporary Paris. Bezace puts in a highly believeable performance as Lulu, a cop who is a human being first, battling hard not to take his professional problems home at the end of a shift. It is his humane streak which gives L627 a lot of its charm. Lulu is in danger of becoming too involved in the lives of some of the habitual junkies he deals with on a daily basis. Can he resolve his professional duties with the empathy he feels towards fellow human beings?
L627 remains a vital part of Taverniers catalogue, proving that he his very much a director with a social conscience. Recommended.
