Film Description

With Gummo, maverick director Harmony Korine continued the experiments with teenage unpleasantness he began two years earlier with Kids. Korine’s ambiguous portrayal of Midwest youthful depravity is aided by Dogme-95 style grainy, impressionistic imagery, combining mixed formats (Super 8, Polaroids) with raw, improvised acting. Few films offer poetry, disgust, boredom and brilliance in equal measures; few directors polarize critical opinion as much as Korine.
