Film Description

Two films from Peter Whitehead, a chronicler of the counterculture as it happened in London. Features Wholly Communion, a documentary film about the International Poetry Incarnation, a formative event for the UK underground held in June, 1965 at the Royal Albert Hall, and featuring readings from poets such as Allan Ginsberg, Michael Horowitz and Adrian Mitchell.

Also includes Benefit of the Doubt, Whitehead's 1967 documentary about Peter Brook's anti-Vietnam protest play US, performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company. It questions the assumptions about Britain's relationship to America, is steadfast in its view of international relations and war and has great relevance in today's political climate. Filmed at London's Aldwych Theatre, it features Peter Brook, Michael Kustow, Michael Williams and Glenda Jackson.
