Film Description
Andrew Bujalski, the brightest new voice in American independent film, follows up his critically acclaimed debut, Funny Ha Ha, with a compelling tale of music, friendship and love.
Alan is an indie singer-songwriter who has just arrived in Brooklyn after the break-up of his band. He has a coveted gig at the hip Northsix club that is being promoted by Sara, an enchanting radio DJ who finds him a drummer and who also has designs on Alan.
However, Alan prefers hanging out with his old friend Lawrence and Lawrence’s girlfriend, Ellie. Can Alan make it as a musician, whilst dealing with his dangerous mutual attraction to Ellie?
“Mutual Appreciation has seen Bujalski justifiably hailed as the great hope of the American indie film” (Time Out).

Mutual Appreciation is Andrew Bujalski's follow up to his acclaimed debut, Funny Ha Ha. Shot in 16mm black and white it immediately announces itself as a hipper film than its predecessor, whilst maintaining the slacker feel that Bujalski does so well.
Justin Rice, lead singer of Bishop Allen in real life, is a compelling lead, which is just as well as the film follows his bumbling efforts to make it in the New York music scene. A simple story but told with feeling and intelligence. < less
