Film DescriptionAh! Sunflower is a colour record of Beat poet Allen Ginsberg's 1967 visit to London. With Ginsberg at the height of his fame as a roving ambassador for the counter-culture, Iain Sinclair and Robert Klinkert were commissioned by WDR (Cologne) to make a 16mm colour film documentary about his visit. It is centred around his appearance at The Congress of the Dialectics of Liberation, held at the Roundhouse in Camden Town, in which cultural fault lines already visible. Black activist Stokely Carmichael launches a scathing attack on posturing hippies, anti-psychiatrists RD Laing and David Copper preach on the voyage into madness and Gregory Bateson issues apocalyptic warnings about coming eco disaster. The film is put into context by new interviews with Iain Sinclair, Chris Oakley and Gareth Evans.
