Star Review
With one of the catchiest theme tunes ever recorded (Lightning Tree by The Settlers), the Yorkshire TV series Follyfoot, which aired between 1971-73, was a hugely popular programme which was judged Best Children's programme of 1972 by the Society of Film and Television Arts. Its long-awaited arrival on dvd will rekindle many fond memories and is certain to appeal to horse-lovers everywhere!
The series is set on Follyfoot Farm, a sanctuary for rescued horses owned by an eccentric colonel (Desmond Llewellyn – Q in Bond films), where teenager Dora, the colonel's neice, goes to stay after her parents move abroad. She there finds purpose in her life through caring for horses. Just as her fellow stable-hand Steve has been given a chance to lead a productive life there, so Follyfoot also gives another chance to horses that have been rejected or abused. A series that aimed to address many of the issues that older chlidren would face in their lives, the quality of the stories was ensured by being based on novels by Monica Dickens.

I've just finished watching the first series of Follyfoot and can't believe the next series isn't available. I was only one when it was first aired but can remember watching it (probably a repeat)along with The Adventures of Black Beauty. I also had the annuals for both of them as a child and wished I'd kept them all now. But what an absolute joy its been watching them. Haven't quite finished Black Beauty yet and notice the second series isn't available for BB either only a 'best of'. Come on, someone should get make all the series on dvd, they are absolutely fantastic. < less

It is long overdue this fantastic first series on DVD. It will be lovely to see Gillian Blake again who appears to have vanished off this planet. Let us all hope that this release will encourage Gillian to return to our screens - we all adored her back then in those 70's days. Thank you for this release and now we need other series to be made available soon - perhaps a complete box set with extra footage please! It will be so nice to see Steve, Ron, Slugger and the Colonel once again also.
