Branagh, one of our most excellent national treasures, once again adapts a Shakespearean play for the screen, this time pairing the immortal Bard with the immortal songs of the thirties, with colour sequences linked by short black-and-white "contemporary" footage of Shakespeare's slighter romantic comedies is given a thoroughly charming frivolity and the cast obviously have a wonderful time singing, dancing and throwing themselves into the spirit of the thing. < less
