Film Description

Two rogue movies from MI6's archives: The Bond movies that got away. Casino Royale (1967) is a fantastic slice of 1960s insanity, with no less than five directors contributing to an epic retelling of Ian Fleming's original novel that has a team of 007s (including David Niven, Peter Sellers, Woody Allen and Ursula Andress) teaming up to fight Orson Welles' villainous Le Chiffre. Burt Bacharach's score is outstanding. By comparison, Never Say Never Again (1983) is a sober affair, with director Irving Kershner bringing Sean Connery out of retirement for a competent remake of Thunderball (1965). Rowan Atkinson, Max Von Sydow and Kim Basinger spice up proceedings, and Klaus Maria Brandauer is an above average villain.
