Of the myriad British sitcom spinoff movies of the seventies, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais' The Likely Lads proved to be one of the more durable transitions from small to big screen. All the best tragicomic elements of the later series are here: Bob's descent into apathetic domesticity, Terry's desperate attempts to find employment in recession hit Britain, and the ongoing demolition of the Newcastle they grew up in. And there are some great funny lines - Terry to Bob: 'I'd offer you a can, but I've only got six.'
