Film Description
The cult horror classic in which a devout Christian policeman (Edward Woodward) is summoned to a remote Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a child. While there he uncovers a bizarre pagan cult, led by Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee). As preparations for a sinister ritual celebration reach fever pitch, the policeman begins to realise what role the islanders intend him to play. Britt Ekland and Ingrid Pitt co-star.
This is intelligent, extraordinary filmmaking. With its shameless sex, pagan rituals, colourful costumes, vibrant sense of fun and jaw-dropping ending, this is a 24-carat must-see film. Or perhaps not, for any self righteous Christian copper!

One of the greatest films ever made let alone the one of the greatest horror films. It is rewarding to watch because it treats the viewer with intelligence. Clues are laid throughout the telling of the story so that you get a sense of what the island is like. The film is like Hitchcocks 'The 39 Steps' in that once Sergeant Howie receives the letter from Summerisle the ball starts rolling and there is no stopping it. The music is perfect because it does what good film scores should do and that is not to control audience emotion but to fit the character of the story. So next time someone tells you that British films are rubbish and we can never make movies as they do in Hollywood, tell them Hollywood has never made 'The Wicker Man'.
