Film Description
Ken Hutchison stars as the brooding and tormented lover Heathcliff in this 1978 BBC television adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic novel.
Adopted as a boy by the kindly Mr Earnshaw (John Collin), Heathcliff comes to live with the family at their home, Wuthering Heights, in the Yorkshire moors. He soon falls in love with Earnshaw's headstrong daughter Cathy (Kay Adshead) in a doomed relationship that plunges them both into despair when Cathy agrees to marry her rich neighbour Edgar Linton (David Robb). Tortured by his love, the dark and sinister Heathcliff refuses to relinquish his emotional hold on Cathy, and does everything in his power to destroy the lives of her and her family.

I unrestrictively love this dramatization of Wuthering Heights, mainly because everything : the scenes, the dialogues are so accurate, so faithful to the book. This version is long enough to allow little - if anything at all - to be left out. I'm so glad too it was filmed on the very place to convey the right atmosphere : the beloved Yorkshire moors, so dear to Emily's heart ; and Ken Hutchison as Heathcliff is magnificent !
Anybody who loves the book will love this adaptation, I think ! < less

I agree, I am 44 years old now and I watch this series in 1978. I loved it because it's very thruthful to the book, that I have read a thousand times. The characters are so well defined, specially Heathcliff. Ken Hutchinson is a great actor, giving the character the roughness and at the same time that charm that makes every woman to love Heathcliff. I found it a couple of months ago on Ebay, and didn't doubt for a moment. I am living in the US, though I am a spaniard and I bought it to someone over there in England. I just want to say to not let die this fabulous series and adaptation of the great Emily Bronte's novel.

I watched this series on BBC2 back in 1978 and it was never repeated that I know of. I have been looking for it ever since! It is the only full version of the book that is available. It is an invaluable as a study aid for anyone who is reading it for exams. I have no idea how it has been found and recorded on DVD but I am so thrilled. BBC Canada were my last hope a year or so ago. If anyone loves this story as much as I do by Emily Bronte I would recommend it as it is not romanticised and cut up like the other poorer versions that have been put on screen. FANTASTIC. < less
