Cry Wolf DVD, 2005

High-school horror starring Jon Bon Jovi. Troubled teenager Owen Matthews (Julian Morris) has recently joined prestigious Westlake Prep high school. When a young woman is found murdered near the campus, he joins a group of outsider students in spreading an internet rumour that she was murdered by a local serial killer known as 'The Wolf'. But when the students begin inventing other murders supposedly committed by the Wolf, new victims are soon appearing, killed in exactly the same way the students have described. When no one believes their story, the group find themselves being hunted down one by one, as their internet game turns into a terrifying reality.

We’ve been here before (eight unsuspecting high school seniors in jeopardy), but direction and playing here gives the proceedings an edge that’s all too often lacking in most such fare. After one too many incidents of bad behaviour at his last school, Owen Matthews (British actor Julian Morris) arrives at Westlake Prep – where a young woman has recently been found murdered in the dark woods nearby. Owen quickly falls in with the school’s unofficial ‘liar’s club’, including the beautiful and savvy Dodger (Lindy Booth). At Owen’s suggestion, his new friends decide to spread a rumour that a serial killer called ‘The Wolf’ committed the recent murder and is planning to strike again. And guess what happens? Edgy staging keeps the clichés at bay. < less
