One of the most charming and wonderful children’s classics of all time! Shirley Temple is utterly delightful as the spirited young orphan whose aunt, tired of caring for her, takes her into the Swiss mountains to live with her grandfather. This gruff old man (Jean Hersholt), which the locals believe to be dangerous, lives like a hermit but comes to adore Heidi and devotes himself to her care. But tragedy strikes when the aunt returns and steals Heidi away, selling her to a family whose invalid daughter (Marcia Mae Jones) needs a companion. Despite her misfortunes and ill-treatment by an evil governess, Heidi still manages to charm the entire household and never stops trying to return to her beloved grandfather. Allan Dwan and Shirley Temple give the story such warmth that makes it irresistible for young and old! < less
