Film Description
A musical comedy of romantic errors set in 1920s New York, Hello, Dolly! is based on the Thornton Wilder story and stars Barbra Streisand as a society matchmaker who spends so much time fixing up the love lives of others that she forgets her own.
Dolly Gallagher Levi, recently widowed and living in Yonkers, New York, is hired to find the perfect match for widowed millionaire Horace Vandergelder (Walther Matthau) but Dolly can't help but conclude that it is she whom he should be marrying! However, Horace has his eye on Irene Molloy, a pretty young thing that Dolly simply must get out of the way if her plan is to succeed. Meanwhile two of Horace's young employees Cornelius (Michael Crawford) and Barnaby decide to take advantage of the boss's romantic mission to the city and follow him for a glimpse of the urban high-life.
Great songs, lavish sets, and an early sign of things to come from a young Michael Crawford. Oscar winner for sound, music and art direction.
