Unfortunately this third instalment of the Anne of Green Gables is a huge disappointment. The continuing story diverges greatly from the book series. There is very little screen time devoted to Anne and Gilbert together and instead the story begins with Anne and Gilbert living for a year in New York to follow their respective medical and literary careers. When World War I begins Gilbert enlists and he and Anne are quickly married before he leaves. When Gilbert goes missing Anne joins the Red Cross so she can find him.
While I loved the first two series I found this series hugely disappointing. I found it hard to believe that this series was created by the same people who had done such a wonderful job bringing the books to life. The screen script is very badly written. The characters a poorly sketched and the dialogue lacks the humour and warmth that has characterized the series to date. The plot mainly occurs outside of Prince Edward Island and so viewe rs don‘t get to see that wonderful scenery. The is very little screen time devoted to Anne and Gilbert together. I would advise fans of the first two series and the books to give this a miss, a very disappointing waste of time. < less
