This sumptuous epic was the last film the great King Vidor directed – and it was also the last film for actor Tyrone Power, who died during filming to be replaced by Yul Bryner (Power is still visible in some long shots). The visual indulgence of the film is more than matched by the sultry Gina Lollobrigida, commanding the eye as much as the monumental sets. The DVD widescreen transfer is faultless. < less
