Film DescriptionSilent feature based on Pushkin's story Dubrowsky, in which a Cossack lieutenant becomes a masked outlaw when his father's lands are annexed. Enlivened by Valentino's charmingly tongue in cheek performance and William Cameron Menzies' production design, the film is a satisfying combination of two parts Zorro to one part Robin Hood and is the star's penultimate film. Funny, exciting and still immensely enjoyable, it becomes easy to understand just why Valentino belonged on screen.
