Like Peter Pan, the true children’s classic family films never grow up and lose their charm. Whenever these timeless movies were made they continue to delight original fans and enchant new audiences.
Although it's impossible to explain exactly what makes a classic family film, they do share a universal nature that reaches out from the original setting.
Setting a story in the past - such as in The Railway Children - or in a mythical setting - like The Thief of Bagdad - helps to distance great storytelling from being too anchored to a specific era. But naturally rules are made to be broken when the spirit's right, as Kes and The Parent Trap rightly demonstrate in this selection of classic family films. < show less
