Buyer's Guide

An Introduction

The films of this most poetic of directors requires multiple-viewing, but amply reward the effort. His most famous film, Last Year In Marienbad, alienated critics who were frustrated by the elliptical nature of its cryptic narrative, yet more patient viewers soon waxed rhapsodic about its indescribable effect on a willing audience. His powerful documentary Night And Fog, meanwhile, is a classic of the genre, and remains one of the best films about the Holocaust ever made.
