Michael Powell, best known in association with Emeric Pressburger, after a brief stint as a banker entered the film industry in 1925 as a runner. His partnership with Pressburger was formed early on when he was asked to step in and save a film called The Spy in Black. The pair were total opposites in background and personality yet they found common ground in their approach to film-making. Referring to themselves as The Archers, they made 19 feature films, many receiving critical and commercial success.
