Buyer's Guide

An Introduction

The visuals in Greenaway's oeuvre are always astonishing; his artist's eye composes beautiful symmetries and surreal landscapes that are often breathtaking. Although his films are often peopled by horrific grotesques (such as Michael Gambon's amazing performance in The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover), making Greenaway an acquired taste, his dry wit and inventive style should appeal to all film buffs. He is one of the great modern British filmmakers.
