Undoubtedly the best-known silent comedian of all time, Chaplin's long chain of comedies still impress 80 years on. The breathtaking pace of his slapstick and the genius of his set-pieces are still a complete joy to behold. His later talkies are also fascinating, tackling serious matters (serial murder in Monsieur Verdoux, Fascism in The Great Dictator) with a light satirical touch.
