Let's be honest - modern British Film is not looked at with the same reverence (either in the UK or abroad) as British cinema of the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s. Is that fair? Well, it's impossible to judge how films such as Trainspotting or Secrets and Lies will be regarded in 50 years time, but you could hope that the snapshots of life they provide will be as compelling and interesting to future film lovers as those found in Brief Encounter or Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.
